Science day was celebrated in Tejaa Shakthi Institute Of Technology For Women on 27 Feb’09. Prof. Shasidaran Nair was the chief guest of the day.

Students were encouraged to exhibit their skills in the science exhibition. The highlight of the programme was the involvement of the students in conducting the show and presenting speeches on Science.

The programme started with the welcome note. Miss.Preethi , representative of IT Dept welcomed the gathering. Shri.T.N.P.Muthoo Nataarajan, Chairman delivered the Presidential address and Dr.B.Ilango, Academic Consultant presented a special address.

Principal Dr.V.Jayaraman gave an overview of Science Day. Student participants from various departments spoke on the importance and development of Science in different areas like Industry, Medicine, Environment, etc.

The Chief guest of the day presented an interesting presentation on ‘Contribution Of Science In Human Evolution’. Later, Mrs.A.Tharalakshmi, Secretary, presented a memento to the Chief guest. Prof.Ramakrishnan, HOD Dept of Physics and Chemistry, announced the prize winners of the day’s exhibition.

The programme came to an end with Miss. Monica, representative of ECE Dept proposing the vote of thanks.

One day workshop on ‘Employability of Engineering Graduates’

At the outset Principal, Dr.V.Jayaraman, welcomed the gathering. The Chief guests of the day Dr.S.Annadurai, Principal, Government College Of Technology, Coimbatore and Sri. V. Balasubramanian, Director, Institute of People Education, Avinashilingam University, enlightened the Students about the Technical and Soft Skills they have to develop for employability and the various job oppurtunities available after graduation. Their talk was an eye-opener for the participants on their future prospects.

The highlights of the programme was the technical quiz in the afternoon session. Students enthusiastically participated in the quiz programme. Students from Women’s Polytechnic, Coimbatore won the First prize. The Second and third prize went to Sri Ramakrishna Polytechnic for Women and PSG Polytechnic respectively. A campus visit after the quiz helped the Students to get an idea of the infrastructure and facilities available at the college. The programme came to a close with the Valedictory function.

NSS Inauguration – 19 March’09

The inauguration of the first NSS Unit was held on 19 March 2009 at Tejaa Shakthi Institute of Technology for Women.

The chief guest of the day was Mr. Soorya Prakash, NSS Programme Co-coordinator, Anna University, Coimbatore. At the outset Principal, Dr. V. Jayaraman, welcomed the gathering. The Programme was presided by Dr. B. Ilango, Academic Consultant, Tejaa Shakthi Institute of Technology for women.

Mr. Soorya Prakash enlightened the students about the importance of NSS and the meaning of Service. He also created a spark in the students to work for villages, the back bone of India.

Prof. P. Arumugham, HoD, Dept. of English and Maths, felicitated the occasion. Later, the NSS volunteers presented the NSS song followed by a speech by Ms. Anju Rajaguru of ECE Department, on the importance of NSS.

Ms. Aarthi K.M, NSS Programme Officer proposed the vote of thanks and the programme ended with the National Anthem.

NSS Camp – 20 March’09

As a part of inauguration of the first NSS Unit, the NSS Volunteers were taken to a primary school at Vinobhaji Nagar, Karumathampatti on 20 March’09 for a one day Programme.

Nearly 100 volunteers took part in the one day NSS Camp. In the morning, the students involved in cleaning the campus and planting saplings around the school. The primary school students were provided with juice and ice cream.

In the afternoon, importance of education was emphasized by the NSS volunteers by enacting a skit. Stories with morals were narrated to the children. Solo and group songs were sung to entertain them. The school children were involved in games and cultural activities.

The day came to an end with the distribution of chocolates to school students by the NSS Volunteers.

Tejaa Astronomy Association

            The inauguration of TEJAA ASTRONOMY ASSOSCIATION was held on May 25, 2009 at Tejaa Shakthi Institute of Technology for Women.

            The Chief Guest of the day was Dr. K. SUNDARA RAMAN, Senior Scientist & Scientist In-Charge, Kodaikanal Observatory and the Guest of Honour was Prof. K. SAKTHIVEL, Adithya  Institute  of  Technology, Coimbatore.

            The function started with the Prayer song and lighting of Kuthuvillaku. Prof. P. Arumugham, Principal i/c welcomed the gathering. The Programme was presided over by Sri. T. N. P. Muthoo Nataraajan, Chairman, Tejaa Shakthi Institute of Technology for Women.

            Ms. K. Ankitha, Secretary, Tejaa Astronomy Association gave a small introduction of TEJAA ASTRONOMY ASSOCIATION and its functions and it was followed by presentations on Astronomical Events – 2009 and Types of Telescope by Ms. R. P. Diya & Ms. S. Karthika of ECE Department respectively.

            The Guest of Honour Prof. K. Shakthivel rendered a speech on Astronomy Association, its activities and significance. He shared his own experience on Astronomy and starting Astronomy Association in various colleges and how students got benefitted out of it. Later Tmt. A. Tharalakshmi, Secretary & Correspondent, Dr. B. Ilango, Academic Consultant, offered felicitations.

            The Chief Guest of the day, Dr. K. Sundara Raman presented a fascinating presentation on ‘Exploration of Space & Solar Physics’ in which he talked about Telescope and its benefits. Some of the highlighted areas were Spectroscopy, Galaxies, Nebulae, Proto Star Formation, Solar Structure and Auroras. As a part of his presentation, he showed rare pictures of Astronomical bodies taken from Space and took a fantastic trip from ‘Micro to Macro Cosmos’. He also related Astronomy and Spirituality during the discussion.

            The function came to an end with Ms. Shabana P. Sulaiman proposing the vote of thanks followed by National Anthem.

            To start with the association activity, Star Gazing was also carried on in the night. It was assisted by Prof. K. Shakthivel who provided two telescopes for the same.

First Annual Day and Sports Day

Tejaa Shakthi Institute of Technology for Women celebrated its first Annual day and Sports day on 1st June, 2009 at its campus.

The Chief Guests of the day were The former Chief Justice of Jharkhand High Court, The Hon’ble, Thiru. M. Karpagavinayagam and  Chairman , Appellate Tribunal for Electricity, Petroleum and Natural gas , New Delhi, and Smt. Padmini Karpagavinayagam.

Prof. P.Arumugam, Principal i/c presented the Annual report for the academic year 2008 – 2009.Thiru. Lion. T.N. Palanisame, Founder & Group Chairman presided over the function.  Thiru Pon Manivasaga Adigalar, Pillayar Peedam, Perur blessed us with his holy words.  Thiru T.N.P. Muthoo Natarajan, Chairman offered felicitation.

Dr. B. Ilango, Academic Consultant also offered felicitation in which he stressed upon the objectives of the institution: Empowering women through quality education and producing employable graduates. He also highlighted the importance of communication in English.

The Chief Guest of the day, The Hon’ble Thiru. Justice M. Karpagavinayagam delivered a powerful speech emphasizing on setting higher goals and the ways to accomplish those goals. He cited a proverb: “Where there is a will there is a way” through which he said that the students should have strong will to discover a new arena of success.

He also indicated the significance of the word TEJAA which embodies the power of having all the ingredients towards success. He exposed that the word TEJAA touches all the realm of success as mentioned below:

Where there is a Will: there is a Way,

Where there is Way: there is Life,

Where there is Life: there is Action,

Where there is Action: there is Happiness,

Where there is Happiness: there is Success,

Where there is Success: there is Shakthi,

Where there is Shakthi: there is Tejas. 

He said that each one of us has certain divine purpose in us and we should realize and be victorious over it. He also highlighted the fact that truthfulness is the primary key to be triumphant in all the aspects and the Integrity of mind, heart and deed would lay a powerful foundation to cherish and flourish our goals and aspirations.

He stressed upon the spirit of having buoyancy which is a prerequisite constituent, which the students should possess not only to embark in their chosen field but in their life too.  He induced them to have an insight into their latent talents and focus their attention towards it. He also insisted that sincerity, honesty, dedication and eagerness to learn things were the necessary elements to rise to a higher level in their life.

Following the speech of the chief guest, Mrs. Padmini Karpagavinayagam gave away the prizes to the winners who with their pleasant smile made the day a grand success.

The annual day and sports day finally ended with cultural programmes where the students exhibited their latent talents vibrantly and brilliantly. The celebration of both college day and sports day engraved a remarkable mark in the history of Tejaa Shakthi Institute of Technology for Women.

Inauguration of Computer and Information Technology Association

 

The departments of Computer Science and Engineering and Information Technology of Tejaa Shakthi Institute of Technology for Women inaugurated the “Computer and Information Technology Association” on 07-10-2009.

                                                 

The Chief Guest Mr. P. R. Rangasamy, Managing Director, Consolidated Cybernetics Pvt. Ltd., spoke to the students on the essence of attitude, learning capability, relaxation and health. He also briefed about the opportunity in the field of Information Technology.

                                        

The president of the function, Mrs. A. Tharalakshmi, Secretary and Correspondent, Tejaa Shakthi Institute of Technology delivered her speech related to the role of women in IT industry.

                                                 

Dr. K. Ramachandralu, Principal, Tejaa Shakthi Institute of Technology addressed the students and also gave the statistical report about the Software industry. Dr. M. Arthanari, Professor and Head of the CSE and IT departments introduced the chief guest. Mr. Pradeep, Faculty Advisor introduced the office bearers of the Computer and Information Technology Association. Ms. V. Inauguration of Electronics and Electrical Engineering Association

The departments of Electronics & Communication Engineering and Electrical & Electronics Engineering of Tejaa Shakthi Institute of Technology for Women inaugurated the “Electronics and Electrical Engineering Association” on 24-09-2009.

                                  

The Chief Guest Mr. B. Shanmuga Sundaram, Deputy General Manager, R&D, Premier Evolvics Private Limited, Coimbatore highlighted the growing demand of the industry, importance of Professional qualities & ethics and job opportunities in the field of Electronics.

                                                      

The President of the function Mr. T. N. P. Muthoo Nataraajan, Chairman, Tejaa Shakthi Institute of Technology addressed the young budding Engineers with the importance of Entrepreneurship

NSS day Celebration

On the occasion of NSS Day, 24th Sept 09, Tejaa Sakthi Institute of Techonology for Women celebrated the day by planting the trees in the campus with Siruthuli’s assistance.

        

The Apex members of  Siruthuli, Mr. P. S. Kasha, Mr. Kesavan, Mr. Krishnan and Mr. Ramesh addressed the students about the environmental degradation caused by the use of plastics, the biggest threat to eco system. Prof. Arthanari presided over the function. The Siruthuli Apex members made a presentation to the  students to make them of the danger of  public apathy towards environmental problems and the ever increasing peril of the ‘Use and  Throw Culture’ of consumerism.

                                          

They highlighted the importance of citizen responsibility for most of  the problems of the environment and urged the students to practice conservation of resources and minimise  waste by following eco-friendly practices. Only by doing so will they be able to give a better world to their progeny.

Inauguration of the Red Ribbon Club

Tejaa Shakthi Institute of technology for Women inaugurated the Red Ribbon Club on 31.10.09 at the campus.  Dr. M.  Arthanari, Hod of CSE and IT presided over the function.   The District Manager, RRC, Mr. D. Sekar Mahesh gave a presentation on RRC.

                                              

The Chief Guest Dr. Mahadevan, Medical Officer, Department of STI , Coimbatore Medical College created an awareness  about HIV, AIDS  among the students.  He said that AIDS, a high-risk disease can be prevented through proper awareness among the public.   He explained the misconception clearly that no one has ever been infected by a shared coffee cup, spoon, or fork, or by the use of a water fountain or a toilet seat, mosquito or other insects’ bite.  He said that It spreads from infected persons through blood transfusion, infected pregnant mother to baby, use of unsterilized needles or syringes with an infected person,  through open sores,  irritations from other STD’s and unprotected sex. He also explained various ways to protect themselves from the evil.  He underlined that by consuming healthy food and taking proper medicines, the HIV Positive person can prolong his/her life span to some extent.     

                                                    

He advised them that in order to protect themselves from the HIV AIDS epidemic disease, they should not do anything which they think their children ought not to do in future.   This is the only way to protect themselves from HIV AIDS spreading through STD. Ultimately, the fatal disease; HIV can be preventable if everyone takes precautions seriously.

Inauguration of the Youth Red Cross Unit

Tejaa Shakthi Institute of Technology for Women inaugurated the Youth Red Cross Unit on 24th Oct 2009 at the campus. Dr. M.  Arthanari, HOD of the CSE and IT presided over the function. Ms. K. Priyadarshika, YRC student Chairman listed out the forthcoming plan of activities to the gathering.

                               

Dr. Usha Elango, Pediatrician, Perks Medical Centre, spoke about the urgent necessity for organ donation. Drawing attention to the fact that in India there is a dire need for organ donation, she made an impassioned plea to the students to spread the word and persuade people to donate their organs. She dispelled all the misconceptions about the inelegance of organ donation and convinced the students about the need to work for this noble goal in order to supply a great and ever increasing demand. She said that more than eight organs like the heart, lungs, pancreas, kidneys, eyes, skin, tissues can be donated.  Even one percent of cadaver donations from the entire population of India is sufficient to cater to the needs of the sick and ailing, and help to save thousands of lives.

Science Inaugural and Charles Babbage and Ramanujam birthday was celebrated in  in Tejaa Shakthi Institute Of Technology For Women on 22-Jan-2010.Prof. Dr. C.Sivaraj, Director,DJ Academy for Managerial Excellence,Coimbatore was the chief guest of the day.

 The Chief Guest inaugurated the science club. He spoke the evolution of computers and its impact on the society.He requested the students to do research in their own field of interest.He advised students to publish papers in reputed journals as many papers as possible.The students also presented presentation about Charles Babbage the " father of computer" and the great mathematician, Dr.Ramanujam.

Mr. V.V. Kripanand spoke to the II year B.E. students about Personality Development . He has considerable experience in both placement and training. He spoke about the importance of effective communication skills consisting of delivery of words, body language and voice modulation. He related amusing incidents from his own experience to stress the importance of carrying oneself with confidence and poise. On many occasion one’s carriage and posture can govern the result of a job interview. He urged the students to sharpen both their technical skills as well as their communications skills.

International Women's Day Celebration

Tejaa Shakthi celebrated the International Women’s Day on  March  8th , 2010 in the college. Students enacted a skit to depict  the changing face of the Indian Women over the decades.

The chief guest Dr. R. Poongothai , Associate Professor, Kongunadu Arts and Science college enumerated the multiple roles  that women play in the course of their lives. She agreed that women faced conflicts in order to accommodate all the roles, and had to make difficult choices but that need not deter them. She urged them to    fulfill their duties before standing up for their rights. Men need never be obstacles in achieving   their goals and there were opportunities aplenty for women today.

Employability of Engineering Women Graduates

Employabilit of Engineering Women Graduates program was conducted on Tejaa Shakthi Institute of Technology for Women on 9-Feb-2010.The Chief Guest Mr. C. Seetharaman, MD, Campus Image Coimbatore was the chielf guest of the day.  He described the job opportunities for women software engineers in the film industry (editing) .  He inspired the students by sharing his career experiences and the challenges   he faced. He also gave placement assurance for the students.

Interactive Training program organized by Red Ribbon club

The Red Ribbon Club organized an Interactive Training Session on March 6th, 2010 at Tejaa Shakthi Institute of Technology for Women, Karumthampatti. The Speakers were Mr. Albert John Counsellor ICTC, Coimbatore Medical Hospital, Ms. A. Poonkodi , Field Officer , Coimbatore Network for Positive People and Mr. D. Sekar Mahesh District Manager RRC.    The Counselor clearly explained how  AIDS can and cannot spread. The Field Officer, Coimbatore Network for Positive People Ms. A. Poonkodi  narrated  her experiences, and  case studies to  advise the  students to protect themselves from this dreaded  disease. Mr. Sekar Mahesh, RRC, explained the motto of the RRC and the need for  propagating  AIDS Awareness among the public.

NSS Activities- Pulse Polio Awareness

 Pulse Polio Immunization Programme was organized by NSS Volunteers  on 10-Jan-2010.NSS team visited the adopted village, Vinobha Nagar on Friday and met the residents. They   put up a notice about the polio immunization programmes on January 10th and February 7th in the school and informed the residents about the important dates.

NSS Camp Activities

The NSS camp organized  a blood donation camp in which nearly thirty students and staff members and non teaching staff donated blood. The Coimbatore Bio Medical Association from R. S. Puram headed by Dr. Mohan screened the students and staff members to see if they were fit enough to donate blood. Dr, Mohan explained the value of blood donation, especially from healthy young people and how patients could access them.

On the second day, the NSS students went on a door to door campaign and   met  the  residents and the school students of Vinobha Nagar.  They distributed pamphlets, explaining the urgent need to follow effective waste management practices in order to maintain health and hygiene.

On Wednesday 24th February the NSS wing arranged a special meeting for the school students and residents with Siruthuli, an NGO working for the restoration of water bodies and afforestation. Mrs Anu Valentina an Apex member of Siruthuli and Ms Haritha, coordinator of Siruthli were the special guests. Mrs Anu Valentina addressed the gathering and presented two short movie clips about the importance of conserving our water resources and keeping our environment clean and green. 

The medical camp was followed by Sports and Cultural Programmes conducted by the volunteers for the school students on two days. Children took part in running race, lemon and spoon race, elocution, drawing, singing and dancing.

 

On Friday, 25th February 2010, a free Eye Testing camp was held at the School and both the school children and the adults made use of this facility to get their eyes tested by the ophthalmologists of the Lotus Eye Care Hospital in Coimbatore.

Second Annual Day and Sports Day

Tejaa Shakthi Institute of Technology for Women celebrated its Second Annual day and Sports day on 22nd April, 2010 at its campus.

The Chief Guests of the day was  The  Vice Chancellor of Avinashilingam University for Women, Dr. Mrs. Saroja Prabakran .

The function started at 4 pm with the Principal’s Annual report followed by the Chairman’s presidential address. He urged the students to always be open to learning from their ‘gurus’, whoever that guru happens to be at a given point of time, because there is a lesson to be learnt at every turn in one’s life and from surprising sources.

This was followed by the felicitations given by Mrs. A. Thalalakshmi, Secretary and Correspondent. She cited the names of some illustrious women who played the dual roles  of a homemaker and a scientist  and contributed their might to the cause of science. She urged the students to be aware of their responsibilities as future homemakers and be prepared to balance their home and career with ease.

The Chief guest Dr. Saroja Prabhakaran expressed her delight at Tejaa Shakthi’s remarkable achievements in the academic year 2009-2010 and said that it was a matter of immense satisfaction to her that there was an exclusive women’s engineering college under the auspices of the Anna University. Hailing the 21st century as a period of the Renaissance of Science and Technology, she said India stood third in technological advancement and was a home for many great scientists. She advised the students to be aware of the unlimited opportunities lying in wait for them and  take up these challenges by following a life of rigour and discipline.

The cultural programmes consisted of dance performances,   a mime show,  music programme  and an English skit. The programme ended at 8 p.m.

Our colege Athlet Ms.R. Sumana, B.E.(III CSE) has won second prize in Shot put and third place in Discuss throw in the State Level Youth Carnival Competitions conducted by TNSAC and RRC of Anna University of Technology,Coimbatore  on 12-July-2010 at Nehru Stadium, Coimbatore.
